Welcome to the Homer, Illinois Website
It is an honor for me to serve as Mayor of Homer during this time of growth and development. We are presently at the beginning of a major infrastructure development project. After many years of planning and work, we are realizing a 30-year dream of having city-wide sanitary sewer installed in Homer. This is the third of a four-part development plan Homer has undertaken in the last 12 years. First, we developed new wells to increase our water supply. Then we built a new water tower to improve the quality, supply, and pressure of the new water supply, and after the sewer is complete in the fall of 2012, we will overlay most of the streets in town, finalizing this decade of development.
Recently, Homer celebrated its 150-year birthday. Like any ‘birthday,’ this event is a bench mark in our community’s progress. The past 50 years have been very hard for small towns and villages in Illinois. Many people regret the trends but see it as inevitable. I have always rejected this thinking. It has been my pleasure and honor to work with many fine people on the Village Board to reverse these trends. The process has been slow, sometimes tedious, and often times frustrating, but we are making great, steady progress. By the time Homer observes its 200th birthday we will do so in a town more prosperous, more vibrant, with a well-laid infrastructure, and a solid, involved citizenry.
I look forward to sharing the next decade with you in a renewed Homer.
